Licensed Practical Nurse

Red Deer Regional Hospital is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse for our Pre-Admission Clinic. The Pre-Admission Clinic nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive teaching to patients undergoing surgical procedures on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals you will ensure that patients are optimized and prepared for surgery. Your duties will include pre-operative screening, accurate documentation, and patient education. Key responsibilities will include pre-operative evaluation of medical histories and medications, ensuring appropriate consent and pre-operative protocols are followed, and educating patients and their families around pre-operative preparation and readiness for surgery.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Demonstrated knowledge of current surgical procedures and the patient’s experience throughout the peri-operative period. Well-developed assessment skills. Ability to work at a computer and sit for long periods is required.

Recent experience in preoperative assessment or ambulatory care area (recent refers to experience in the last 3 years). Patient teaching experience preferred. Experience using Netcare and Connect Care preferred.
