Description
South Health Campus (SHC) is more than just a hospital, the campus environment includes inpatient units, outpatient clinics, wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for staff, patients and the surrounding communities. The campus houses a YMCA and private food services. The SHC has four key pillars of service: Patient and Family Centered Care, Wellness, Collaborative Practice, and Innovation. These pillars are the guiding principal for Pulmonary Diagnostic and Specialty Clinics in the development and delivery of care to all patients and families involved. Under the direction of the Management Team for Pulmonary Diagnostics and Specialty Clinics, the LPN is responsible for: assessment, planning, intervention, education and evaluation of patient care in the outpatient clinic environment. Working within full scope of practice the incumbent is required to assist with varied medical procedures, participates in and supports research activities.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Knowledge of process and nursing skills within Pulmonary and Specialty Clinics, plus a keen interest in outpatient care are essential as this position will be responsive and flexible to adapt in a changing environment. The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Active participation in patient, family, and staff education. Effective patient assessment skills, timely documentation, attention to detail and accuracy. Effective time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload in a fast paced and high volume changing environment. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal. Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, sound nursing judgment, and critical thinking skills. Actively participation in all research projects and quality improvement initiatives. Proven positive interpersonal relationships, leadership, and conflict resolution skills in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Ability to integrate patient and family centered care principles into own Nursing practice. Effective communication with clients of various ages, socioeconomic status, and ethnic backgrounds.
Minimum 3 years of adult Critical Care / Medical / Surgical experience preferred Experience in Pulmonary Outpatient Clinics is preferred. Certification in vaccination administration is preferred. Experience in procedural sedation recovery is preferred. CRE, CAE, or CTE certification is preferred. Experience working with Connect Care, Netcare, SCM/SCM Ambulatory, Clinibase, Millennium Scheduler programs preferred.
