Description
High River Hospital supports the rural community located just south of Calgary. Hospital services include 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Obstetrical Department, Cancer Care, and Medical Inpatients Unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Emergency Department works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of the patients, families, & community. The LPN is responsible for assessment planning, implementation, and evolution of care delivered. You will provide a wide variety of nursing services while taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the population served. You will work to full scope in supporting an integrated approach to patient care, families, and health care team. You will demonstrate initiative and accountability and will seek out and accept direction as required. The ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads will be vital. To be successful, you will have good communication skills, strong critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, strong decision-making abilities, and the ability to work independently and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Being competent in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn with demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining your continuing competence through professional development activities is a must. A commitment to professional development and promoting a positive work environment is valued. Being a preceptor and/or mentor for students and staff is an expectation. The place of work is in a community designated for Canada Student Loan forgiveness. You may be eligible for the Rural Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program if you meet other eligibility requirements.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
The LPN position has physical requirements such as the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs. The LPN will demonstrate AHS’ values when working at High River Hospital.
Current ACLS certification. Emergency experience greater than 6 months. Previous acute care experience. Previous rural healthcare experience. Effective communication skills required and self-initiated career growth. Able to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated strength in working collaboratively with diverse cultural and marginalized populations. Relevant additional education/certification in wound care, palliative care, NVCI, CTAS.
