Description
Working in a fast paced, ever changing general surgical environment, 3A Inpatient General Surgery. The LPN is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care to medical and surgical patients. Our unit functions in a team environment using the CoACT model of care. Strong organizational and prioritization skills are necessary for the successful applicant to function autonomously in the General Surgery setting. The LPN uses technical skills and clinical judgement in the delivery of professional nursing care to acute surgical patients. The LPN participates in collaborative practice with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team. The LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care during the patient experience in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Applicants must be physically able to perform all duties listed in the Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse Job Description and Hazard Assessment Control Worksheet (HIAC) including "working conditions". Extended periods of sitting and standing are required. Maintains competencies outlined in legislation and the profession through continuous learning. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize workload. Good listening skills and ability to accurately and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Evidence of team commitment and good interpersonal skills in dealing with clients, colleagues, physicians and public. Evidence of flexibility, initiative and commitment. Evidence of maturity, diplomacy and tact.
2-3 years of recent surgical or medical experience or recent preceptorship on a surgical unit preferred.
