The successful candidate will be required to coordinate the delivery of nursing care for the sick and critically ill neonate. The nurse will participate in family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The nurse will be able to maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co-workers, and be able to independently manage multiple priorities.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for acute care neonatal patients. Proficiency with Timeless, Connect Care, Microsoft Word, Outlook, MS Teams. Post-graduate continuing education on breastfeeding teaching and support is preferred. Skilled in clinical decision making and priority setting. Demonstrated critical thinking skills. Excellent communication skills in a multidisciplinary environment. Patient teaching and family support skills. Integrate family centered care in practice. Must work to full scope of practice including IV initiation certification. Fluent in spoken and written English required. Demonstrated ability to work well with team members.

Current NRP certification. Recent acute care experience within 1 year preferred. Preceptorship of a final focus nursing student in the last 2 years. Experience with fortified expressed breast milk preparation. Recent NICU experience within 1 year preferred. Trained for milk preparation role.
