The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is a comprehensive tertiary rehabilitation hospital with an international reputation for excellence in complex rehabilitation and specialized geriatrics. We participate in academic training programs for physicians and allied health professionals and offer an extensive array of continuing education courses. The Spinal Cord Injury/General Neurology Unit 3B is a 19-bed unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN observes, monitors, reports, and documents changes in the patients physical, mental, and emotional state, assists the patient with activities of daily living and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. The LPN is responsible to collaborate as a member of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care, to meet the needs of the patient.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta and Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) are required. Must have graduated from a recognized Practical Nurse program. 2 years recent experience in neurosciences or spinal cord injury rehabilitation preferred. Computer experience is required. The ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities is essential. The candidate must be able to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to patient/client planning processes. Excellent communication skills, a compassionate and caring attitude, and attention to detail are necessary.

Strong health assessment skills combined with recent neuroscience or spinal cord injury nursing is required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are essential. Ability to work within and provide informal leadership to an interdisciplinary team. Experience in providing patient education and promotion of self-management strategies. Lifting, positioning, transferring, and handling of patients of varying abilities using It’s Your Move principles and equipment is required.
