We have a robust multidisciplinary team that all contributes their specialty and expertise towards the rapid stabilization of individuals suffering from mental health disorders. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. You provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care developing strong skills in mental status assessment, de-escalation, and conflict resolution.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

4 months of inpatient Addiction and Mental Health experience within the last 3 years.

Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Nursing experience in an acute care setting is preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques preferred. Knowledge of how to intervene is an asset. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessments i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, Violence risk.
