Description
The License Practical Nurse (LPN) - Adult Psychiatric Unit 49 role includes the full scope of practice for a License Practical Nurse (LPN) in an adult acute care mental health unit. This position will work in collaboration with the entire nursing team, within a fast-paced acute care environment. The License Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide safe and effective nursing care following hospital policies and nursing care standards. The License Practical Nurse (LPN) will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient’s physical, mental and emotional state. The License Practical Nurse (LPN) will assist patients with activities in daily living and provide patients and their families with relevant information and teaching. The License Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for collaborating as a member of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care, to meet the needs of the patient. The License Practical Nurse (LPN) may be required to deal with patients who at times may be aggressive, unpredictable and high risk and must be able to de-escalate patients and respond appropriately. The successful applicant with be invested in ongoing professional development, participating in a variety of learning opportunities as an ongoing awareness of best practice changes coming from Recovery Alberta as a larger system as well as outside of Recovery Alberta. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, critical thinking skills and strong assessment skills are required. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) certification is required or must be obtained after employment. Minimum one year of nursing experience in an acute adult inpatient psychiatric setting within the last three years.
Working knowledge of collaborative problem-solving. Working knowledge of psychotropic medication, psychiatric disorders and therapeutic interventions. Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
