This is an exciting opportunity to work at Full Scope of Practice on a busy Acute Medical Cardiology Inpatient Unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on Unit 71 observes, monitors, reports, and documents changes in the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional state, assists the patient with activities of daily living and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. Working as part of a care hub, the LPN is responsible to collaborate with other members of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care, to meet the needs of the patient. The LPN is expected to provide safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the medical portfolio. All staff must be able to think critically and respond to emergency situations. This position is a great opportunity to work at full scope of practice, to develop a broad knowledge base and a solid clinical nursing foundation as well as provide care in a collaborative work environment. This position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work on a regular basis to ensure safe patient care and safety of unit staff. All staff are required to assist with mobilization of patients with a variety of ambulation needs and disabilities.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

6 months of recent Adult Acute Cardiology Medicine Demonstrated ability to work at full scope of practice. Strong communication skills are essential. Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-sedentary work environment. Able to handle the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to walking, bending, push/pull, lifting and standing for extended periods of the shift. Experience working in a collaborative team environment (CoACT). Telemetry/Dysrhythmia certification within the last 2 years. Central Venous Access Device certification. Patient Controlled Analgesia certification. Experience with Chest Tubes/pleural drainage devices. Connect Care experience. A demonstrated ability to work with seniors and patients with responsive behaviors / cognitive impairment.
