The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH) is a comprehensive tertiary rehabilitation hospital with an international reputation for excellence in complex rehabilitation and specialized geriatrics. There are inpatient units and outpatient/ambulatory clinics at the GRH that provide support across the continuum. The Spinal Cord Injury and General Neurology Outpatient Clinic at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is a comprehensive outpatient clinic that provides longitudinal care to people living with Spinal Cord Injury and General Neurological conditions. This complex and specialized service allows patients to obtain assessments, receive support for complication management, and have recommendations made for diagnosis related needs from specialized clinicians. As an integral member of our multidisciplinary clinic, nurse plays a key role with their major responsibilities which include but are not necessarily limited to completing comprehensive assessments, triaging a significant range of competing complications, coordinating comprehensive clinic visits, providing direct patient care during clinic appointments, and collaborating with appropriate services/teams/resources for ongoing patient care. Consistent and direct coordination and collaboration with Physiatrists and Physicians must occur to safe deliver care to patients including assisting with ISNCSCI exams and obtaining specimens as needed. The nurse will provide holistic education for Spinal Cord Injury specific needs such as neurogenic bladder and bowel management, AD, skin integrity, and respiratory dysfunction.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

A minimum of five years of rehabilitation nursing experience with at least 2 years of recent ambulatory care experience is required. Proficiency in the care of persons with Spinal Cord Injury is required. Strong computer skills with expertise in using Connect Care is required as well as ability to complete desk/computer work for multiple hours at a time. Effective time management and the ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities is essential. Clinical competence for comprehensive assessments and strong communication skills are required. Must be able to tolerate long periods of sitting and standing with repetitive movements. During in-person assessments and patient care, ability to manage physically demanding work with no physical restrictions is required. Constant patient handling will be required on clinic days such as lifting, repositioning, and transferring of patients with varying level of independence using It’s Your Move principles and equipment. Excellent teamwork and leadership skills are essential. Experience in providing patient education and promotion of self-management strategies. Collaborating with supports across the care continuum required.
