In collaboration with a strong multidisciplinary health care team, the Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) on Unit 102 provides holistic care to the general surgery/surgical oncology patient. Working to full scope of practice, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and their families. Unit 102 is a fast paced unit, which requires the LPN to be confident in their competencies and surgical nursing knowledge.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

TPN/TNA experience in line with scope of practice from CLPNA. Blood administration experience in line with scope of practice from CLPN. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and accountability. Demonstrates effective time management and organizational skills. Commitment to working within a dynamic healthcare team interested in advancing the care of surgical patients. Ability to manage multiple demands and changing priorities.

Recent (in the past 3 years) minimum 12 months General Surgery Experience. Recent (in the past 5 years) minimum 3 years of Inpatient Acute care experience. Knowledge of Connect Care. CVC experience in line with scope of practice from CLPNA. TF, J tubes, NG, silastic experience. Ostomy and wound care experience. Drains - maintenance and removal. CoAct Experience.
