The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the South Calgary Health Centre Urgent Care (SCHC UCC) works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of patients, families & communities within his/her level of competency. The LPN is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care delivered. SCHC UCC provides care for unscheduled health conditions to a diverse population, as part of an integrated community service delivery model. The LPN works to full scope of practice and is expected to advance to caring for all patients, including those needing cardiac monitoring.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Current Basic Life Support with Heart and Stroke Foundation. Current ACLS certification. Experience with cardiac monitors. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Demonstrated excellent critical thinking skills, within scope of practice, including clinical judgment, problem solving, and strong decision-making ability. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and unpredictable environment. Expertise in clinical skills. Ability to work independently and interdependently. Demonstrated strength in working collaboratively with diverse cultural populations and marginalized populations with socio-economic diversities. Current proficiency with Connect Care (EPIC). Ability to lift/push at least 50 pounds, bend, reach, stand for long periods of time and work in confined/awkward spaces.

Recent emergency or urgent care experience. Experience with pediatric populations an asset/ PALS. Recent NVCI training preferred. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application.
