Description
This role offers the opportunity to provide meaningful perioperative care in a close-knit rural hospital setting, where teamwork, adaptability, and community connection truly matter. Collaborating with an experienced surgical team, the LPN/ORT delivers safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout the patient’s surgical journey. Practice is guided by CLPNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), and CSA Standards of Practice, with a strong emphasis on hands-on skill, accountability, and evidence-based care. In a rural environment, the LPN/ORT plays an essential role supporting patients before, during, and after surgery and contributing to a culture of safety, respect, and collaboration. This position offers a broad and rewarding scope of practice from foundational nursing skills to advanced clinical activities, allowing to grow professionally while making a visible impact in the community. Ongoing learning, self-reflection, and pride in professional practice are strongly supported. Stettler is located in the “Heart of Alberta”, just 179km southeast of Edmonton and 101km east of Red Deer. It serves as a regional hub with a main trading area involving over 11,000 people. The town has a wide assortment of community facilities including an elementary/junior high school, a composite high school, a library, twin arenas, an aquatic center, a performing arts theatre, and much more. The area also has a few golf courses and is close to Buffalo Lake.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum of three months experience is required. Post-Grad Perioperative Certification required. Or completion of a CLPNA approved perioperative course.
Experience with orthopedic, urology, gynecological, obstetrical - delivery/c-sections. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods.
