Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a regulated member of the inter-professional health care team who utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills to provide care to individuals across the life span. The LPN provides care in alignment with Alberta Health Services mission to provide patient focused quality health services and the AHS values of respect, accountability, transparency, engagement, safety, learning, and performance. This is a dynamic position that requires accurate multi-tasking and priority setting in order to accomplish daily goals. The LPN’s practice encompasses the application of nursing knowledge, skills and judgment to assess patient needs and provides nursing care, which is reflective of their level of education and knowledge. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in a fast-paced Clinic within General Neurology and Cognitive Clinics. This posting is for a LPN to work within our Neuroscience department at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
A minimum of 1 years experience with adult population of Neuroscience within the last 3 years. Experience working within Acute care or Ambulatory clinic settings as a LPN within the last 3 years. Demonstrated excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational and patient care skills. Excellent telephone assessment skills. Able to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Must be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organization and multitasking skills. Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook and connect care is required. Ability to push, pull, and lift equipment of up to 40 lbs., Must be able to participate in patient care including assessments, moving and handling, transfers and mobility support. Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend and twist and be able to perform repetitive computer tasks.
3-5 years experience with neuroscience population (Parkinsons, Stroke, MS, Neuromuscular conditions etc.) preferred. 1 year experience working with clients with cognitive deficits. Experience with Lumber Puncture Procedures. MOCA Certification preferred.
