Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Implementation Scientist to play a pivotal role in transforming cancer care in Alberta by bridging advanced analytics with real-world impact. At Cancer Care Alberta, our mission is to be leaders in cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care, all built on a foundation of world-class analytics and evidence. The Precision Analytics team is a collaborative and multidisciplinary group of experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, machine learning, and implementation science. Together, we drive data-informed innovation to solve complex healthcare challenges. As we expand our capacity to apply advanced analytics to high-priority initiatives, our focus remains clear: ensuring timely, equitable, and effective care for patients across the province. As lead Implementation Scientist, you will play a critical role in designing and executing strategies that ensure the successful integration, sustainability, and scalability of the tools and evidence developed by Precision Analytics, ensuring data and evidence lead to meaningful and tangible impact on patients’ lives.
Reporting to the Program Lead, Precision Analytics, the Lead Implementation Scientist will play a critical role in a multidisciplinary team conducting large-scale applied analytics to address high-priority issues identified by Cancer Care Alberta leadership. Precision Analytics applies advanced expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, machine learning, and implementation science to deliver impactful projects that generate evidence and decision-support tools, all aimed at enhancing timely and equitable access to cancer care across Alberta. The Lead Implementation Scientist will provide strategic leadership to ensure that Precision Analytics-generated evidence is effectively integrated into clinical and operational decision-making. They will guide the strategic planning and execution of implementation efforts, ensuring that decision-support tools are designed for real-world usability, sustainability, and system relevance. They will develop robust frameworks to assess the effectiveness of implemented solutions. Key responsibilities include supporting the development of dashboards (in Tableau), engaging operational leaders, clinicians, and other stakeholders to gather input on tool development, facilitating collaborative, user-centered design processes, and ensuring continuous alignment between system needs and Precision Analytics initiatives. They role also includes leading high-impact presentations, developing communication strategies, and create training materials to support widespread tool adoption. As a senior member of the team, they will stay current with emerging theories and methods in implementation science and contribute to mentorship and capacity building by. This is a 1-year position (hybrid, pending internal policy changes) with possibility of extension.
Completion of PhD in health-related discipline. 3-5 years experience in applied Implementation Science. Demonstrated expertise in implementation science methodologies and frameworks applied to healthcare settings Strong background in stakeholder engagement Experience developing and evaluating decision-support tools and knowledge translation strategies Proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with Tableau and other data visualization tools. Strong project management skills and demonstrated mentorship ability.
Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
2 years experience leading applied implementation science projects. Understanding of Canadian health systems. Experience working in large-scale health system implementation projects Non-technical understanding of machine learning, biostatistics or advanced analytics is an asset. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio and Access) and the ability to become proficient with new software packages.
