The Health Promotion Facilitator reports to the Area Manager, Population and Public Health. Works with AHS staff/physicians, AHS programs, and community partners to develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion strategies. In collaboration with Area Manager identifies Area and Community health promotion strategies that align with the Provincial Population Public Health strategic plan priorities in addition to Zone health promotion priorities in the areas of intentional/unintentional injury prevention, cancer prevention and screening, and tobacco, vaping and cannabis reduction. Utilizing a population health approach to develop, implement and evaluate health promotion activities that build capacity and empower individuals and communities. Considering the social determinants of health to develop, implement and evaluate health promotion activities that create supportive physical and social environments. Utilizing a health equity lens to ensure equitable access to health services and health promotion activities for North Zone communities. Providing expertise to assist AHS staff/physicians, AHS programs and community partners to coordinate and implement strategies promoting health. Planning, developing, and implementing workshops, seminars and presentations related to healthy living and injury prevention for AHS staff/physicians, AHS Programs, Community partners and individuals Linking AHS staff/physicians, AHS programs, community partners and individuals to evidence based relevant health resources. Advocating for healthy public policy related to healthy living and injury prevention within the communities and populations of the North Zone. Collaborating with other AHS programs where health promotion strategies and priorities overlap as directed by Area Manager and Zone Health Promotion Leads.

As a Health Promotion Facilitator I, you will assist communities to be healthier through mentoring, advocacy, and education. In this role, you will link individuals and/or communities to relevant health resources within the region or province and work with community partners, workplaces, and health services or to access, plan, implement and evaluate health promotion strategies. You will participate in special studies and/or research projects and review health-related data and identify trends related to population health and at-risk groups. In addition, you will facilitate the development and/or implementation of program-specific guidelines in partnership with other stakeholders. You will plan, develop, and facilitate workshops, seminars, and presentations for staff as well as communities, workplaces, and health services. You will also prepare work plans, budgets, and year-end reports, and provide input for departmental goals and strategies.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Health Education or a related field.

Experience working with communities or in a public health setting. Experience in the identification, development and/or implementation of health promotion/wellness programs, initiatives and strategies. Experience in utilizing computer and software on a day-to-day basis. Evidence of superior interpersonal and communication skills, community development program planning, advocacy, public relations, and social marketing skills. Demonstrates experience and good understanding of health promotion and determinants of health, including theory, knowledge and practice. Demonstrates experience in organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
