The Health Care Aide provides personal care and support to clients in a community setting. Work is assigned according to an established plan of care, in collaboration with the client, family and members of the interdisciplinary team. The Health Care Aide is supervised by a regulated health professional and may perform assigned Restricted Activities under specific circumstances. Documentation of pertinent information and care provision is required, as is participation in relevant in-service education.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate from an Accredited College/Program is required. Equivalent experience/education will be considered. BLS-HCP and /or first aid training. The ability to apply Health and Safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, to work effectively and cooperatively with others and to set priorities by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. A valid full driver’s license (non GDL) and a reliable vehicle for travel is required. Ability to meet physical demands of the job. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references. New employees must provide a criminal records check (at their own expense) in compliance with the Protection for Persons in Care Act. Smoking restrictions are in effect. Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals is desirable. Medication Assistance training is preferred. Familiarity with Rover, PC, Internet and Microsoft applications is an asset.
