Description
The Health Care Aid is an unregulated Health Care Provider that would work in the diverse setting of Cardiac Care Unit under the direct supervision of regulated Health Care Providers (RN). The Health Care Aid works within a Care Hub setting as a member of the multidisciplinary team to their full scope within an Acute Care Setting for the delivery of quality, patient and family centered care. The Health Care Aid is an integral member of the team that works within the Collaborative Care environment.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Certificate in Health Care Aide Course from a recognized program. Minimum 2 years’ experience in an acute medical setting, preferably in a cardiac setting. Current BCLS-HCP certification from Heart and Stroke Foundation. Current experience with Connect Care documentation and access with Millennium Scheduler Must be willing to work within a Collaborative Practice Model. Willing to perform additional operational duties as deemed essential by management. Registered for ILT training with Connect Care model for go live date at PLC. Demonstrated promotion of workplace safety and adherence to safety policies and procedures required. Demonstrated excellent critical thinking skills, organization and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and handle competing priorities. Demonstrated strong communication skills within a multi professional team environment. Demonstrated accountability for own professional practice and encouraged others to do the same. Demonstrated respectful, professional relationships with patients/families and all members of the interprofessional team required. Understands and complies with: The Health Professions Act. The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The Health Information Act.
