Health Care Aide - PCU 44 Trauma/Surgery

In collaboration with a strong multi-disciplinary health care team, the HCA provides holistic care to the poly-trauma and general surgical patients in the acute care phase. You will help to advance the unit’s values of: Collaborative practice, Full scope of practice, Patient and family centered care and evidence-based practice. While working in a dynamic team environment that supports learning.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

The Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant (NA) requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and sustained posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects as described in the job classification of “heavy physical demand. Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP), the ability to have N95 fit testing and “It’s your move” certification is required. Recent experience in an acute care setting. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written English. The ability to work as a member of a team and request and accept direction is required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/families, visitors, and team members. Well-developed time management and organizational skills. Basic computer skills. Demonstrate accountability, critical thinking, interpersonal communication skills required, and commitment to collaborative practice.

Ability to contribute as a team member, learn within a dynamic environment, and adapt/cope with change. Epic/Connect Care, Microsoft Edge, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate preferred.
