Description
As a Food Service Worker, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient- and resident-focused health care as a valued member of the Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) team. NFS is a provincial service committed to providing nutritious, healthy, high-quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community. Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, the Food Service Worker performs a variety of duties to support a positive patient, and customer experience, including: preparing, handling, portioning, and packaging food and beverages; assembling trays; delivering and picking up patient meals; operating and cleaning industrial food service equipment; and following AHS policies and guidelines related to food safety, sanitation, and safe work practices. Other related duties may be assigned. The successful candidate will demonstrate: the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy; the ability to work effectively under pressure; strong communication skills in English with patients, coworkers, and other departments; professionalism and teamwork; a patient-first approach aligned with AHS Foundational Strategies; and the ability to perform basic math for measuring portions.
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, stand for extended periods, and lift items as required.
Previous customer service and/or food service experience. Experience in a hospital or continuing care environment. Experience with inventory handling, including stock rotation and FIFO practices. Experience using industrial/commercial food service equipment. Food Safe Certificate (or willingness to obtain). WHMIS training (or willingness to obtain).
