The Family Counsellor, PCL reports to the manager and provides mental health clinical support & leadership to several medical teams within the Alberta Children's Hospital. Responsibilities include assessment, consultation of complex patients presenting with medical and mental health concerns. Collaborates with the medical teams and psychiatry to formulate and implement the best plan of care to manage the medical and psychiatric concerns. Provides ongoing support and education to the staff, collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team, and ensures comprehensive, coordinated and continuous care is provided to the children, adolescents and families. Triage referrals & provides information and evaluates appropriateness of referrals for the program, helping make connections to other resources when the services available through the program do not match client need. Gather collateral information on referrals as required. Completes Assessments on both the inpatient and outpatient referrals/consults The Family Counselor works closely with the multidisciplinary team in both the delivery of Consultation as well as time limited family therapy. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative working relationships within a multidisciplinary framework. In addition, this position also supports eating disorder inpatients and their families. As such this role works collaboratively with the CL Eating Disorder Inpatient Service multi-disciplinary care team. Shifts are 8:00-4:15. Days of work are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday is the scheduled day off, as well as weekends. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Current registration in relevant professional association recognized by Alberta's Health Profession Act (e.g. ACSW and CAP). Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience and excellence in family therapy in a Mental Health/Psychiatric setting, preferably with children and adolescents. Experience working collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Creative, flexible, and collaborative systems thinker. Strong computer skills required. Creativity and adaptability in a continuously changing environment are essential. Strong organizational, problem solving, and communication skills are required. The primary modality for treatment is family therapy. Strong understanding of family systems essential.

Previous teaching and educating experience (mental health and/or medical) is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent development, and family systems. Demonstrated knowledge of Patient & Family Centered Care. Experience working in Consultation. Demonstrated leadership and ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team members. Strong family therapy skills is an asset.
