The Director, Clinical Engineering Centre of Expertise is a key leadership role in the Capital Management (CM) portfolio and reports directly to the Senior Program Officer, Capital Operations & Government Integration (COGI). This position is responsible and accountable for ensuring provincial standards are established and maintained for Clinical Engineering (CE) throughout the province. This position will assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the CE programs and services in support of the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services (AHS). This position works closely with zone CM and CE leadership to ensure zone initiatives align with provincial goals and objectives; and is also responsible for: contributing to the development of CE department goals and business plans to ensure they are supportive of and in compliance with the delivery of quality and sustainable health systems; the overall life cycle maintenance of medical systems and devices within their jurisdiction; establishing and maintaining key relationships with AHS medical, clinical, and other department leaders, vendors and manufactures; developing, monitoring, and implementing standards of practice to meet all regulatory requirements for supporting medical devices; providing input to the diverse sourcing services for infrastructure projects, equipment acquisition programs, service agreements; managing the eFacilities Admin Queue and user support, and chairing the eFacilities Working Group.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering program; registered PEng in the province of Alberta. Biomedical Engineering Technologist with 10 years health care experience. Minimum 5 years in a management role in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Progressive leadership experience in a health care environment, including 5 years’ experience in a management role in CE operations. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing quality services. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short and long-term projects and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees, and other partners.

Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Strong record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals.

Minimum 5 years in a management role in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity (health care experience an asset). A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
