Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services, the Dietitian is responsible for direct patient care for inpatients and outpatients at High River Hospital in the areas of acute care, long term care and the community cancer centre. The Dietitian monitors patient outcomes, communicates with team members and documents in an appropriate manner. The Dietitian will play an active role in the education of nutrition interns and medical staff. Responsibilities will also include participation on committees as directed.

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge, skills and judgment required for independent practice. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues and clients as a member of a team. Demonstrated commitment to providing patient and family centered care. Demonstrates initiative, accountability, good time management, decision making ability and strong organizational skills. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and person development.

Experience working in a rural hospital setting, long term care and with patients undergoing cancer treatment.
