Description
Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services, Pediatrics, Calgary Zone this Dietitian I is responsible for direct care and acts as a consultant for pediatric patients and their families in the inpatient setting. This dietitian is an integral member of several interdisciplinary health care teams providing nutrition consultation for a wide variety of medical diagnosis from moderate to high nutritional risk; including pediatric feeding disorders, long term complex care, and/or diagnoses requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition care plans. They are available for weekend on call shifts as scheduled. This Dietitian actively integrates patient-and family-centered care principles into practice; has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; has excellent time management and prioritization skills; and maintains continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities. This dietitian has a strong background in providing & leading evidence-informed nutrition care and plays an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing and medical staff. Responsibilities will also include participation on zone and/or provincial NS committees and/or research projects as required for meeting Provincial NS Child Health Strategy & Standards targets.
As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.
Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).
Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe Parenteral Nutrition 10 (1) (c). Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe a Schedule 1 Drug 10 (1) (d). Minimum two or more years of experience in a pediatric tertiary care hospital.
Experience working with patients with complex pediatric medical diagnosis, including pediatric feeding disorders, across the age continuum from infancy to adolescence. Evidence of advanced knowledge in pediatric nutrition support via enteral and parenteral means. Advanced skill in transitional (inpatient to outpatient) nutrition care working within interdisciplinary teams. Strong skill set in teaching nutrition care plans with patients and families.
