This is an opportunity for a Dietitian to join the child health nutrition team on a temporary 0.8 FTE basis. This Dietitian I reports directly to the Nutrition Services Manager for Pediatrics in Edmonton Zone. The Dietitian I is responsible for a variety of nutritional challenges, including but not limited to consultation & care planning for nutrition support via enteral and oral supplementation to optimize growth and development. He/she collaborates with and/or provides support for the team as required. This Dietitian actively integrates patient-and family-centered care principles into practice; has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; has excellent time management and prioritization skills; and maintains continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities. This Dietitian has a strong background in providing & leading evidence-informed nutrition care. Responsibilities will also include participation on zone and/or provincial NS committees and/or research projects as required for meeting Provincial NS Child Health Strategy & Standards targets. It is beneficial to have knowledge of pediatric outpatient nutrition care, including assessments, personalized diet interventions, and the impact of mental health on eating behaviors.

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Minimum 2 years’ experience as a clinical pediatric dietitian.

Demonstrated experience with up-to-date clinical practices for pediatric feeding and swallowing difficulties. Demonstrated experience with nutrition support modalities, especially use of oral nutrition supplements and enteral tube feeding. Acquired knowledge of behavior change counselling. Completion of the 20-hour AHS Breastfeeding course. Knowledge of the impact of mental health on eating behaviors and the ability to tailor nutritional interventions.
