This Dietitian I position with Alberta Health Services, Nutrition Services (NS) reports directly to the Manager, Nutrition Services, Pediatrics & Eating Disorders, Calgary Zone. The Dietitian is primarily responsible for direct nutrition care of inpatients with eating disorders at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. As an integral member of the Eating Disorder Program interdisciplinary health care team, the dietitian is responsible for the nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation as per AHS Nutrition Services Standards of Practice. Also, he/she may be responsible for co-facilitating nutrition education groups; other group programming; providing meal support and nutrition counselling for caregivers and adolescent clients. He/she partners with provincial & zone Nutrition & Food Service teams in providing evidence informed practice in eating disorder treatment. The dietitian will play an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing and medical staff to ensure the delivery of consistent, accurate, evidence informed nutrition care. Responsibilities will also include participation on zone and/or provincial NS committees and/or research/quality improvement projects as required for meeting Provincial NS Strategy & Standards targets. This Dietitian I actively integrates patient-and family-centered care principles into practice; has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; has excellent time management and prioritization skills; and maintains continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities.

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Minimum three years’ experience as a Clinical Dietitian. Advanced skills in Nutrition Counselling for Behaviour Change.

Experience & demonstrated excellence in the provision of nutrition care for pediatric clients & their families living with eating disorders or other mental health conditions in an inpatient setting. Demonstrated experience and strengths in providing psychoeducation in a group setting as well as program planning and development skills is an asset. Knowledge of and experience with different nutrition support modalities in particular enteral nutrition.
