Description
The Stollery Children’s Hospital is the primary acute care centre for children in the Edmonton Area and referral center for the Western Canadian Heart Network (WCCHN). All forms of pediatric specialized services and critical illness are managed at the Stollery with care provided by highly skilled child health professionals from around the world making it well-recognized globally. More than just a hospital, the Stollery exemplifies AHS culture and values along with a philosophy of patient-and-family-centered-care. Within the Stollery is the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic which specializes in the diagnosis and follow-up of children with congenital or acquired cardiac disease from birth to 18 years of age. The Pediatric Cardiology clinic is seeking an experienced and dynamic Diagnostic Sonographer I to join their team of professionals. The Diagnostic Sonographer (DS) I - Pediatric Cardiac position reports to the Unit Manager of the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic, ECG Lab and Echocardiogram Lab and is responsible for performing Fetal and Pediatric Echocardiographic examinations. This individual plays an integral role in the echocardiographic diagnostic process in the Cardiology Department. The DS will be required to travel by air and/or ground transportation to work at outreach clinics that our Pediatric Cardiology program supports.
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.
Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Proficient organizational, technical, interpersonal, communication and computer skills. Self-direction, adaptability and flexibility are required while working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. Requires the ability to work independently and assume responsibility while effectively working in an interdisciplinary setting and maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Ability in the areas of perception, initiative, judgment and concern for detail and accuracy with ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines in a timely manner required. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations. Proven reliability and dependability required. Ability in the use of tact, courtesy and professionalism with patients, staff and physicians. Physical requirements include lifting, pushing and pulling to transfer or transport patients and equipment. Extended periods of sitting, standing and walking required. Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sectors Section required. BCLS-HCP required.
Pediatric and Fetal Echocardiography experience is an asset.
