Description

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will utilize your communication skills as you work collaboratively with patients and clients and families, all within a fast-paced changing environment. With your strong attention to detail, you have an ability to organize, set priorities, and multitask throughout the day while working independently and as part of the team. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the x-ray and laboratory, utilizing your critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work both day and evening shifts, during the week and weekends as well as on-call, as assigned. This position’s responsibilities include bench duties, collecting specimens, performing sample handling and manipulation, ECGs, reporting results, and performing x-ray examinations within the scope of practice of a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist as required. Employees shall maintain confidentiality of all APL / AHS information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’ information privacy and information security policies. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.
Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).
Current BCLS-HCP certification required. Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment using Microsoft Office suite, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint. Demonstrate proficiency in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen procurement and handling, and transfusion medicine dispense by applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.
Minimum 1 year experience as a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist within a rural hospital facility is an asset. Connect Care Epic training and experience.
