Description
As an Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) you will play a key front line leadership role supporting safe, high - quality, patient and family centered care in the Day Surgery Multifunction Unit. This position is well suited for an experienced nurse who thrives in a fast paced environment and is ready to take the next step into clinical leadership. The AHN collaborates with physicians and other departments using effective communication and problem-solving skills to support efficient and safe care for surgical inpatients and outpatients. The AHN acts as a resource and mentor to staff, providing guidance, support, and direct mentorship as needed, while also contributing to frontline nursing care on a daily basis. Flexibility and adaptability are essential to meet the dynamic needs of the unit. The AHN fosters a positive team environment by modeling excellent clinical practice, professionalism, and strong interpersonal relationships. In partnership with leadership and the multidisciplinary team. This role will also support patient flow, and the implementation of departmental priorities and quality improvement initiatives.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
A minimum of 3 years within the last 5 years clinical experience working in surgery or ambulatory care. This position requires the ability to meet the physical demands associated with nursing duties for both ambulatory and inpatients. This includes but is not limited to: frequent pushing and pulling of equipment or patients, prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the shift, and the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Demonstrated leadership skills, mentorship capabilities, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships and partnerships with stakeholders. Effective communication, problem solving, change management and organizational skills. Experience using Connect Care. Charge Nurse experience preferred.
