this is an excellent opportunity to work in a unique role at the intersection of medical care, family support, and healthcare system navigation. The skill set should blend clinical understanding, communication, organizational prowess, and emotional intelligence. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and skillset in pediatric palliative care, familiarity with common life limiting diseases and end of life conditions. You will have understanding of medications and interventions used to manage symptoms and create comfort. you are and excellent clear empathetic communicator who actively listens and is able to advocate for the family needs and cultural perspectives. You have proven organizational skills and previous care coordination. You are able to manage scheduling and logistics in a complex system with attention to detail. You demonstrate compassion and empathy with cultural competency and advocacy. The successful candidate possesses strong self-awareness and self-care practices and has resiliency and emotional insight to support our families and patients. The successful incumbent will have proactive problem-solving skills, team coordination and mentoring/leadership skills.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

BSCN in nursing required with a minimum of 3 years current acute care in a pediatric Tertiary hospital setting. You have completed the cultural competencies for AHS.

Pediatric advanced life support. Pediatric nursing courses/ certifications. Pediatric palliative care course/certification. pain and symptom management courses.
