Description
The Diabetes Clinic is seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and dynamic Head Nurse to lead clinical nursing operations and support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered diabetes care. This role is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse with strong leadership abilities, advanced diabetes management knowledge, and a passion for empowering patients to live healthy, fulfilling lives. The Assistant Head Nurse - Clinical Coordinator plays a critical role in coordinating clinical workflows, mentoring nursing staff, and ensuring excellence in education, chronic disease management, interdisciplinary collaboration and provides 1:1 client care in the Diabetes Specialty Clinic. This person with their manager will network and collaborate with other specialty diabetes clinics within the province in determining standardized clinical protocols, referral criteria and triage processes; manage volumes via a centralized access system; share knowledge, resources and clinical expertise; and plan collaboratively to meet unmet needs and future demands. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
As Required.
Clinical nursing experience with emphasis on diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, and gestational) management across the age spectrum. Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE) or willingness to obtain, experience in outpatient or ambulatory-care settings and training in motivational interviewing or chronic disease self‑management models. Knowledge and understanding of the application of Health Change Methodology in all settings.
