An exciting leadership opportunity exists in pediatric inpatient rehabilitation, Unit 201, at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Unit 201 is a 10-bed inpatient/4 day patient rehabilitation unit providing care to orthopedic, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and burn patients. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Assistant Head Nurse will provide leadership of the nursing program ensuring all components are aligned with the unit and zone operational plan, goals, and initiatives. The role is responsible for the provision and coordination of quality patient care to the assessment and admission process and the treatment unit. Duties include planning and organizing day-to-day operations, coordination, and monitoring of unit activities, supporting the supervision of nursing and support staff, and assisting with recruitment. The Assistant Head Nurse also performs nursing duties on the unit and oversees patient admission and discharge planning in collaboration with the Unit MRP’s, NP and Physiatrist. This position acts as a liaison between multiple disciplines on Unit 201 and relevant internal and external stakeholders.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Previous AHN experience.
