Description
The purpose of the Obstetrical Operating Room Assistant Head Nurse is to assist the Clinical Manager by coordinating patient care in OBOR and assist administering AORN OB program. The OBOR Assistant Head Nurse acts as a clinical resource/mentor for the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the day-to-day co-ordinate of patient care activities. This person is accountable for the application of evidenced based knowledge and critical analysis of patient care needs. The preferred candidate for this unit is one who has a strong interest, experience and ability to provide family centered care to the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum experience. This environment is suitable for candidates who enjoy patient and family teaching and guiding/supporting students of novice health care professionals. A candidate with certification in obstetrical OR setting is preferred, charge nurse experience is required, NRP, Fetal Health Surveillance and MoreOB certification is required.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum 5 years full time equivalent experience in a Level II or Level III labor and delivery inpatient Unit required. Fetal Health Surveillance Certification required. Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate required. Education facilitation experiences an asset. Minimum 3 or more-year experience in an Obstetrical Operating Room is an asset. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates organizational skills and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates ability to function effectively in a stressful multidisciplinary environment. Demonstrates ability to meet physical demands of an unpredictable patient population and environment. Demonstrated Expertise in the following: Inter-professional Communication. Patient/Client/Family/Community-Centered Care. Leadership and critical thinking skills. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to patient and family care planning processes. Understanding of teaching/learning concepts.
Basic computer skills including Connect Care. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Current member of MORE OB preferred. Current member of ORNAC preferred. Bachelor of Nursing preferred.
