Description

Lander Treatment Centre in Claresholm, AB is a Recovery Alberta 48-bed short-term intensive, bed-based addiction treatment facility supporting adults who are experiencing problems as a result of their alcohol use, other drug use, or gambling. We are looking to recruit a skilled, enthusiastic, team-focused Addiction Counsellor. Do you have a strong foundation of professional ethics and boundaries, and wish to work in a structured clinical setting that allows you to utilize a wide range of skills and modalities? Do you have a solid foundation of knowledge and skills around addictions, mental health, trauma informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and client centered care? Do you wish to enhance your counselling practice in a team focused setting where reflective practice is encouraged and supported through formal and informal processes? Lander Treatment Centre provides these opportunities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full spectrum of case management duties with clients in a short-term, intensive treatment setting. Primary duties include assessment, treatment planning, individual counselling, group counselling, participation in experiential activities, and referrals to community agencies and allied professionals for ongoing recovery support. This person will maintain accurate and timely documentation in client files and will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. This person will demonstrate strong engagement skills, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a strong theoretical and clinical foundation to guide their counselling practice.
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
The successful applicant to this position will have a sound knowledge of addiction and several years of experience in addiction and mental health counselling (individual and group therapy). Experience with presentations and facilitating psycho-educational sessions. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. Work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary team model. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references. Knowledge of assessment techniques in determining suicide risk. Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel is required. A willingness to relocate or commute daily to Claresholm, AB. There are carpool opportunities from Lethbridge, AB.
Experience working as an Addiction Counsellor in an adult residential addiction treatment setting. Strong working knowledge of mental health diagnoses and treatments to support concurrent capable care.
