The Enterprise Architect will work to define and facilitate the development of Air Canada’s current and future IT architecture required to meet organizational needs, goals, and strategic direction. The incumbent will also promote component reuse, standardization of technologies and ensures that the standards and changes to the architecture are documented, agreed to and implemented through best practices of designing and solutioning
This position will be reporting to the Director, Technology Architecture
Responsibilities:
- Align architectural strategy with business goals and objectives
- Support and participate in developing organizational policies, standards, guidelines and procedures related to IT architecture
- Define and maintain architecture standards, technology choices and architectural patterns in collaboration with IT stakeholders
- Gather and analyze data and develop architectural requirements
- Consult with project teams to ensure compatibility with existing solutions, cloud infrastructure and services and strategic requirements
- Establish standards for modular, reusable software and data components that can be orchestrated across platforms to support diverse business needs
- Contribute to solution design and planning to ensure platforms are optimized for performance, scalability and cost.
- Assess the overall architecture and technology landscape to identify gaps, optimize lifecycle management, and recommend improvements
- Conduct architecture reviews to ensure quality and alignment.
- Provide vision for and direct oversight of an Architecture function (Enterprise, Data, Infrastructure, Applications, Integration, Cloud, Security, etc.)
- Align Architecture with cybersecurity principles and regulatory compliance
- Manage and continuously improve the architecture repository to ensure accessibility, accuracy, and alignment with enterprise standards
- Analyze technology, industry, and market trends to assess their impact on Air Canada’s technology landscape and provide strategic recommendations for adoption or mitigation.
- Provide architectural guidance to manage and evolve IT environments
- Provide technology evaluation and selection advice regarding the use of COTS, custom approaches, open source and cloud appropriateness
- Preparing and distributing architectural vision, goals, standards, structure, behavior patterns, models, to all affected stakeholders
- Oversee and monitor progress on complex and/or multiple projects with respect to scope, schedules, budgets, and quality.
- Checking conformance to standards and architectural decision and resolving design and architectural conflicts by explaining and justifying design and architectural decisions
- Minimize the impact of integration on various existing processes
- Work collaboratively with solution architects, product managers and technical SME in designing new and robust digital solutions
Qualifications
- A relevant University degree/technical certification, and/or relevant experience commensurate to the role
- Significant experience (typically 5+ years) of IT technology, operations, leadership and strategy in a medium to large organization
- Experience with enterprise architecture modeling tools and frameworks (e.g., LeanIX, Archimate, Bizbok)
- Experience designing solutions in a cloud-first environment (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI/ML (e.g., LLMs, agentic systems) and their potential enterprise applications is considered an asset.
- Experience in airline related systems and technologies is considered an asset
- Proactive and able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic approach
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in rapidly changing environments or uncertain conditions.
- Demonstrates openness and willingness to adapt to different and new ways of doing things
- Ability to work cooperatively with others on a team, and to establish and maintain effective business relationships
- Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) effectively with all levels of the organization
- Flexibility to adapt to business needs, including occasional extended hours when required
- Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
