What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Nuclear provides a full spectrum of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services, in addition to maintenance and manufacturing services tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the nuclear power industry. Aecon Nuclear s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts, to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management to the most exacting standards.

Working with our joint venture partner Atkins Realis, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded the definition phase contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RFBR) project. This project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and replacement of the forty eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

The Procurement Lead reports directly to the Aecon Nuclear Procurement Director and is to implement procurement policies and procedures along with establishing the overall strategy for procurement activities. The Procurement Lead ensures that the project is fully supported from a procurement standpoint in an integrated, efficient and cost effective manner.

What You'll Do Here:
The range of activities may include early engagement and demand planning, developing a procurement plan in support of the full project lifecycle, including the tendering process, market solicitation and the negotiation and procurement of equipment, material & components as well as Nuclear safety related materials & components primarily for use in Nuclear Power Plants in Canada. This may include but not limited to: plate, structural steel, pipe, tubing, fittings, valves, weld consumables, electrical components & supplies, and personal protective wear.

  • Primary responsibility is to lead and manage a team to support the full procurement lifecycle and overall success of procurement activities for the Pickering RFBR project.
  • Review of purchase requisitions and related documentation to ensure clarity and completeness with the description of materials, components or equipment, quantity, adherence to quality assurance requirements, proper authorization of funding, delivery requirements, & desired mode of transportation.
  • Providing technical expertise for issuance of standard and quality related Request for Quotation (RFQs) to qualified vendors based on Aecons Approved Suppliers List (ASL)
  • Provide assistance to the Procurement Director to develop project specific procurement plans or as assigned, take the lead in developing such plans.
  • Negotiation or provide assistance with the negotiation for major contracts of best price, delivery, terms of payment and purchase conditions, tax exemptions, price escalation, and other factors impacting the supply of material or components.
  • Implement detailed strategies for procurement, including cost reduction strategies to meet organizational goals and objectives.
  • Establish/Set Standards and Expectations for how we conduct Procurement across the project.
  • Achieve productivity and other performance related goals for the team and all projects
  • Ensuring quality, reliability and responsiveness to operational needs which meet or exceed organizational expectations.
  • Logistics management including expediting for critical site deliveries.
  • Accountability to ensure our internal clients are serviced beyond normal business hours.
  • Ensure training on the Aecon Quality assurance manual is accurate and up to date
  • Providing standardized reporting for the Procurement functional area
  • Oversee management and implementation of the procurement process ensuring adherence to applicable law, ethical practice and company policies and procedures


What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum 7 years experience in Procurement, with a minimum of 5 of within a construction environment
  • Minimum 2 years experience in leadership/management role
  • Extensive familiarity with Procurement/Materials Programs and processes
  • Familiar with EPC project lifecycle and specialized equipment manufacturing
  • Experience handling large and complex purchases and negotiations
  • Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in the Nuclear Industry an asset.
  • Due to the nature of work conducted by CanAtom, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment.

The expected pay range for this role is $80,000 - $120,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
