We help our clients with the most complex projects including working in open web platforms, DevOps platforms as well as intelligent Computing and Architecture enhancement.

The Work:

The Mainframe Technical Architect is responsible for designing and governing how mainframe systems connect with modern platforms, applications, and cloud environments.

Responsibilities:

  • They define integration patterns, data flows, and interface structures that enable secure, reliable, and scalable communication between legacy mainframe components (COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL) and distributed or cloud-based systems.
  • Leads the architecture of APIs, event streams, MQ messaging, file transfers, and hybrid integration models.
  • It ensures that modernization programs can coexist with the mainframe during transition phases while maintaining performance, security, and compliance.
  • The architect also creates integration standards, oversees interface development, and provides technical leadership across teams working on batch, online, and service integrations.
  • Strong client-facing presence and ability to lead discussions with SMEs, developers, and executives.
  • Ability to navigate complex legacy environments and drive consensus.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Comp or related field.
  • Over 7 years years working with mainframe environments (COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, MQ).
  • Strong understanding of modern integration frameworks, cloud-native APIs, and event-driven designs.
  • Experience integrating mainframes with cloud platforms.
  • Experience with API lifecycle management, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
  • Strong knowledge of data formats: JSON, XML, COBOL copybooks, VSAM layouts, flat files, delimited files.
  • English is required for this position as this role will regularly interact with English-speaking stakeholders across Canada. Due to the significant high volume of interactions with these English-speaking stakeholders, which is inherent to this position, it is not possible to reorganize the company's activities to avoid this requirement

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Hogan systems (CIS, IDS, CAMS) or other core banking platforms.
  • Experience with Rocket Mainframe Express, Micro Focus Enterprise Server / EDz.
  • Experience with re-hosting platforms such as Azure Infinite i, AWS Mainframe Modernization.
  • Familiarity with GenAI tools
  • Experience with event-driven mainframe extraction (Kafka connectors, CDC tooling).
  • Familiarity with API governance tools and patterns.
  • Ability to design high-availability, low-latency integration flows.
  • Experience with hybrid integration architecture spanning legacy and modern systems.
  • Strong modeling experience using UML, ArchiMate, BPMN.

Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location,
role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Accenture provides a reasonable range of compensation, based on full-time
employment, for roles that may be hired as set forth below.
