The starting annual salary for this full-time School Teacher position ranges from $61,838 to $108,458, with placement on the July 1, 2024 Teacher Salary Grid based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate educator with a strong background in English and Art. The ideal candidate embraces innovation, fosters curiosity and critical thinking, and is dedicated to empowering students to reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will teach English First Peoples Literary Studies 10, Art Studios 10-12, English First Peoples Literary Studies 11 & Art 9.

Education & Experience

  • Major/minor in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Art
  • Experience teaching visual art at the Secondary level
  • Major/minor in English
  • Experience teaching English First Peoples at the secondary level
  • Specific training in First Nations/Indigenous Education - e.g.: Major or Minor in Indigenous Studies/First Nations Studies
  • Experience and knowledge of Sto:lo culture, teachings and protocols required
  • Experience working with Indigenous learners and in Indigenous communities
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports

Teaching Competencies

All teachers are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.
  • Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
  • Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning
  • Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives
  • Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
