This Opportunity
The Abbotsford School District is seeking a dynamic and visionary educational leader to serve as District Principal - Curriculum, with a focus on K-12 literacy and numeracy, and early learning. This role is central to advancing the district’s strategic priorities and fostering instructional excellence across all grade levels.
Key Responsibilities
K-12 Curriculum Leadership
- Lead and sustain the development and implementation of comprehensive K-12 literacy and numeracy programs, ensuring alignment with district and provincial priorities.
- Work alongside principals and educators to strengthen their capacity in using local and Ministry assessments and data to inform school planning and guide next steps for student learning.
- Guide a team of helping teachers in supporting evidence-based instructional practices aligned with the district’s Literacy Framework and Numeracy Framework.
- Align curriculum initiatives with the District Strategic Plan and the 2024-25 Curriculum Operational Plan.
- Support school teams in using assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Coordinate and report on curriculum-related initiatives to the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
Early Learning & Childcare
- Provide collaborative leadership to the Manager of Early Learning and Childcare, supporting StrongStart, JustB4, Seamless Day, and early years hubs.
- Collaboratively lead and actively contribute to district and Ministry initiatives, including the Early Learning Table and the Early Learning Network, to advance early years priorities and system-wide alignment.
- Promote inclusive, culturally responsive, and community-connected early learning environments aligned with the BC Early Learning Framework and Learning in the Primary Years.
Strategic Planning & Reporting
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Curriculum Operational Plan and ensure alignment with district and provincial priorities.
- Monitor and report on progress toward curriculum goals, including Ministry reporting requirements.
- Align resource allocation and professional learning to school and district needs.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor a team of district helping teachers, fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation, and shared leadership.
- Build strong partnerships with school leaders, Indigenous education teams, and community agencies.
- Model and promote the Abbotsford School District’s Leadership Competencies, including visionary leadership, learning and innovation, and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum (early learning or reading focus preferred).
- Successful teaching experience at the elementary or middle level; experience supporting K-12 instructional improvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood education, child development, and systems of intervention for vulnerable populations.
- Experience with the curriculum development, program evaluation, and data-informed decision-making.
- Familiarity with Ministry and district initiatives such as CR4LL, StrongStart, Ready, Set, Learn, JustB4, and Seamless Day Childcare.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and collaborate across departments and sectors.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and technology integration skills.
