Hiring Manager: Senior Development Manager

Location Address: Toronto (Hybrid, 2x/week in office)

Contract Duration: ASAP to 10/31/2024 (possibility of extension or conversion to FTE)

Schedule Hours: Monday - Friday (37.5 hrs/week)

Business Group: Compliance Engineering - this team oversees the development of compliance-based projects for trade based transactions.

• Project: TRADE SURVEILLANCE. This project is operating under strict timelines to ensure a Transformation project is completed to adhere with compliance standards. This project will utilize Python/PySpark for development and ETL processes
• Story behind the need: Due to strict timelines this project requires additional developments to ensure those timelines are met.

Candidate Value Proposition

• The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on an expansion in the international wealth management space at one of the Big Five Banks in Canada. This is large and diverse team and the successful candidate will have a high likelihood of being extended and placed on another project with this team once the initial compliance project is completed this Spring.

Typical Day in the Role:

• Develop software solutions by studying information needs, studying systems flow, data usage and work processes.
• Identify ideas to improve system performance and impact availability.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts who carry out the detailed investigation into software requirements and will communicate the changes required to the system.
• Conferring with project managers to obtain information on software capabilities.
• Modifying software to fix errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces based on business requirements.
• Working with Linux operating system to complete project tasks.

Must Have Skills:

• 8+ years of Developer experience (Front or Back end).
• 3-5 years of recent Python experience.
• 2+ years’ experience working with database technology and writing intermediate SQL queries.
• Prior Financial Institution experience.

Nice to Have:

• PySpark experience is an asset.
• Prior FI Compliance experience/knowledge also beneficial but team is willing to train.
• Experience in Google Cloud Platform/Azure would be an asset.
• Prior Apache Nifi experience would be beneficial for this position.

Best Vs Average:

• The HM has advised that soft skills will determine the ideal candidate. We are seeking a strong Python Developer but ideally one who takes initiative, and can work independently would be preferred. The first two nice-to-haves are prioritized in shortlisting, while NiFi would be an additional asset but not of higher importance

Degrees or certifications:

• Post Secondary Education in Comp Science or Engineering

Candidate Review & Selection:

• Structure and Format: One round interview with HM (45 minutes), behavioral and technical questions. No live coding assessment indicated, but technical questions will be in depth.
