ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is seeking applicants with Transportation and/or Construction and/or Design Technology skills to fulfill this position. The individual may be a qualified Trades Teacher or a qualified tradesperson with a willingness to become qualified to Teach/fulfill this role. LOCATION

The position will be located within Keewatin Patricia District School Board's Geographical area. The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board serves the communities and surrounding areas of Upsala, Ignace, Pickle Lake, Savant, Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Ear Falls, Red Lake, Kenora and Sioux Narrows.

Provide in person and virtual learning opportunities to students in Crolancia School (Pickle Lake), Ignace School and other community schools for program delivery, teaching and promotion of trades/technology programs/events and support system-wide skilled trades promotion for students in Grades 7 through 12.

DURATION:

The appointment to this position is for the 2024/2025 school year and is contingent thereafter upon secured funding and by mutual consent (contingent upon continued funding). Budget constraints may cause the cancellation and/or reduction of this position. Appropriately qualified individuals will be members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation and may be eligible to secure future teaching opportunities dependent upon qualifications and need and in accordance with the staffing provisions of the Collective Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ontario College of Teachers certification with Transportation, Construction or Design Technology qualifications; OR

A combination of post-secondary or apprenticeship program education and at least two years of work experience in a business or industry related to technology AND willingness and ability to complete the requirements for certification by the Ontario College of Teachers (see Registration Guide, Requirements for Becoming a Teacher Of Technological Education in Ontario for more information on the Ontario College of Teachers’ requirements for certification as a teacher of technological education.)

AS WELL AS:

The Ability to promote trades and technology programs, employment opportunities, pathways options for students, and to build partnerships with employers and community partners.

Experience/expertise/abilities in instructional and assessment practices

Understanding of and/or willingness to learn virtual instruction

Thorough understanding of curriculum documents, Ministry and Board initiatives related to technological studies (Specialist High Skills Major/Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program) and a willingness to promote programs, incorporate technology into virtual and classroom settings, and support technology studies in remote/rural school communities.

Ability to work collaboratively with Keewatin-Patricia District School Board Leads/Teachers to promote Pathways, Special High Skills Major, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program and trades and technology programs.

Ability to work independently

Willingness to travel throughout the Board's Geographical area

A valid Ontario Driver's License

This position will be filled in accordance with the current OSSTF Collective Agreement.
