Job Summary

Key facilitators of disability management process. Ensure employees receive optimal care when absent from work and identify opportunities to facilitate early and safe return to work as per legislative requirements. Provide expert unbiased advice to HR to assist in determining appropriate level of disability benefits and facilitate administration of externally adjudicated disability benefits. Create, manage and administer various wellness programs to ensure employees are capable of making informed decisions regarding their own personal care.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of medical documentation.
  • Identify, manage and coordinate documentation required for both internal and external disability benefits programs.
  • Assess and coordinate need for additional testing, third party assessment and treatment.
  • Coordinate and manage medical consultant’s schedule and case load to maximize resources.
  • Liaise with medical professionals, employees, insurer and supervisor to discuss, clarify and gather appropriate details to determine issues impacting absence.

  • Organize/coordinate return to work programs.
  • Organize wellness initiatives such as monthly wellness topics communicated, vaccination clinics, annual employee health, wellness and safety fair, ergonomic assessments and health and wellness teaching.
  • Employee counselling for various personal issues.
  • Maintain employee’s health files in EHS.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Rights Code, absence policies and practices, LTD contract, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIB and various collective agreements. Comply with relevant City policies.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance on projects/initiatives within the unit/team.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Registered nursing diploma/degree or occupational therapy degree required
  • Registered with the required Regulatory body, College of Nurses of Ontario or College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Disability management education/experience
  • Ergonomic assessment skills
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Medical assessment skills.
  • Microsoft Office software. General computer skills for data inputting, running queries and reports.
  • May require some light lifting of supplies/materials.
  • Exposure to computer keyboards and screens. Primarily office environment.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 47.72 - $ 63.63 (based on salary Grade F $86,858 to $115,812)
