There are hundreds of thousands of points of sale across Canada, most of which are clothing stores, health and personal care stores, service stations, speciality food stores, building material and supplies dealers, electronics and appliance stores, and so forth.
As the retail sector does not require any specific skills, the workforce is comprised mainly of students, for whom the industry is often a way of entering the job market.
