Description
Our post-secondary client is seeking 3 Senior Business Process Analysts (Hybrid, Edmonton AB) to support multiple enterprise-wide process improvement and system modernization efforts cross multiple strategic projects within the institution’s newly established Transformation Office. This office is responsible for delivering business and system changes designed to optimize operations across the institution.
Overview:
Our client has established a Transformation Office with a mandate to deliver business and system changes that optimize various business functions across the institution. To support this mandate, the University requires multiple Business Process Analysts to join ongoing and upcoming initiatives. These projects include the Service Directory Design and Implementation, Intranet Design and Implementation, Research Administrative Service Improvements, and Finance Planning and Budgeting System Implementation. The analysts will play a pivotal role in identifying process improvement opportunities, facilitating change, and ensuring successful delivery of optimized workflows and systems. Two to three resources are being engaged to support these key transformation efforts.
Must-Haves:
- 7+ years of experience as a Business Process Analyst, Business Analyst, across multiple concurrent projects.
- Proven experience identifying and implementing process improvements in large-scale environments.
- Proficiency in mapping “As-Is” and designing “To-Be” processes using BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) standards.
- Strong capability in developing business process documentation and visual process models (flowcharts, swimlanes, etc.).
- Experience in both Agile (writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria) and Waterfall (functional specifications) methodologies.
- Experience collaborating with both business and technical teams on enterprise-level initiatives.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Available to work onsite in Edmonton, AB (hybrid; 2 days/week).
Nice to Haves:
- Experience working within higher education, government, or large public-sector organizations.
- Familiarity with Knowledge Management systems and taxonomy development.
- Experience with Service Directory or Intranet implementation projects.
- Business process improvement or Lean Six Sigma certification.
Responsibilities:
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement in current business processes.
- Create clear and concise documentation of business processes, including flowcharts, swimlane diagrams, and written descriptions.
- Develop and recommend improvements to processes (streamlining workflows, automating tasks, implementing new technologies).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement process improvements and ensure smooth transitions.
- Track and measure the effectiveness of process improvements against business goals.
- Elicit, analyze, and document all functional and non-functional requirements (user stories, use cases, specifications).
- Serve as the communication bridge between business users/owners and the project team (developers, architects, vendors).
- Work with the Project Manager to define and manage project scope and boundaries.
- Analyze current (“As-Is”) processes and design future (“To-Be”) processes, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain a centralized repository of requirements and business rules throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate workshops and effectively translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and vice versa.
- Identify root causes (not just symptoms) and evaluate solution options (build vs. buy, impact vs. effort).
- Manage conflicting requirements and mediate between business users to drive consensus.
- Define and document acceptance criteria; support creation of test plans and lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to validate that solutions meet requirements.
