We are looking for a Senior Manager, Data Platform Engineering, with experience in building cloud-based modern data platforms from the ground up. Reporting to the Director, Data Platform Engineering, the incumbent will be responsible for providing guidance and technical leadership to a team of software and data platform engineers. He or she will be an active hands-on contributor to the development of our data platform that powers our Analytics and ML/AI capabilities.

We are a highly collaborative, agile work environment, so the ideal candidate would demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and excellent technical depth. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation of data management concepts and engineering best practices.


What You'll Do:  

  • Managing software engineers, providing support and coaching to direct reports
  • Lead the agile software development process, including roadmap planning, cross-team coordination, task assignments, code reviews, sprint demos, and design sign-off
  • Hands-on Data Engineering leadership and technical oversight in the development of real time streaming and batch data pipelines, DevOps pipelines, API gateways and build end-to-end processes supporting data ingestion, data transformations, data delivery, data quality, data timeliness.
  • Advocate for the highest standards of technical and operational excellence. Ensure we're building highly scalable and repeatable capabilities in the best manner possible.
  • Partner with scrum master, product owners and other technical leaders on roadmap planning, sizing and estimates; ensure we're building the best scalable product possible.
  • Contributes to the development and documentation of data management standards framework.
  • Attract and nurture talent, mentor and develop a world-class engineering team.


What You'll Bring:  

  • University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field.
  • People management experience and ability to build and develop a highly functional team
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong focus on data.
  • 6+ years of relevant OO programming experience using Java.
  • 4+ years of experience with relational databases (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL queries and optimization
  • Experience with Linux environment and building CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Capability to liaise with all levels across the enterprise on projects and ad-hoc requests 
  • A team player and self-starter, strong detail orientation is essential in this role 


Nice to have:

  • Experience working with Cloud data platforms such as
    Google Cloud Platform (Dataflow, Big Query, Apache Beam, Apache Airflow)
  • Experience with Data Lake and Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Hive)
  • Experience with data visualization and virtualization
  • A team player and self-starter, strong detail orientation is essential in this role
