Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dynamic leader for a key provincial role within our Health Information Management (HIM) portfolio. Based at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, this position offers the opportunity to lead the Access and Disclosure section, guiding a team of HIM professionals and shaping the future of health information access across the province. As Supervisor, Access and Disclosure, you’ll work independently and collaboratively with provincial teams, with occasional travel to Calgary and South Zones to connect with staff. Reporting to the Provincial Manager, Access and Disclosure, you’ll be responsible for strategic direction, team leadership, and operational excellence aligned with AHS’s mission and values. The Access and Disclosure Supervisor oversees a high quality, locally managed but provincially guided Access and Disclosure production service which includes, but is not limited to, management of the daily workload intake, outgoing production, staff assignments, and representation at local meetings, etc. The position ensures quality outcomes in compliance with provincial legislation, internal policies, procedures and standards, and evaluates, proposes and implements new initiatives to continually improve service functionality in alignment with local and provincial initiatives. The successful candidate works independently but seeks guidance for complex situations. They facilitate effective change management to lead business transformation with frontline Access & Disclosure team with the goal of continuous process improvement. The Supervisor provides leadership through effective communication, ethical decision making, and commitment to achieving established goals and objectives, ensuring outcome measurements and standards are enforced. Administrative responsibilities include supervising staff work and vacation schedules, timesheet submission, payroll approval, initiating recruitment processes, hiring, orientation, training and ongoing performance management of frontline staff. In addition to ensuring reference material is updated and staff are informed of any changes in procedures, the Supervisor ensures area equipment is operational, maintained, and covered by the appropriate service agreements. The position collaborates with other Health Information Managers (HIM) and key stakeholders (Information Access and Privacy, police, etc.) to ensure local service delivery meets Alberta Health Services Standards and HIM provincial standards and guidelines.

Diploma or undergraduate degree in health information management, health informatics or business management with appropriate certification, licensure or recognized designation((IAPP, CIM or CHIMA certification and active membership with appropriate association). Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a health information management or health informatics organization of significant size, scope, complexity and diversity.

Strong human-networking, critical thinking, critical analysis, audience-appropriate communication, negotiation and advanced technical writing skills required. Facilitation skills with experience in undertaking liaison and consultations with multiple and diverse stakeholders. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment Strong background with provincial legislations (particularly privacy) and legal precedents.

Leadership experience in an organization delivering health care services and managing unionized sector is preferred. Change management experience and/or PROSCI designation would be considered an asset. Strong knowledge of Access and Disclosure activities would be considered an asset. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
