Licensed Practical Nurse

Your Opportunity:

If you enjoy a role in providing services to clients in a community based setting then this position will be of interest to you. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Home Care works as a member of an interprofessional health care team utilizing the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to individuals across the life span. The LPN is responsible for her/his nursing practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). In collaboration with the Registered Nurse Case Home Care Manager, the LPN is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of Home Care clients and their caregivers/families. There is also an expectation to be a mobile worker. Possession of a valid drivers’ license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related purposes is a requirement of this position. You will be responsible to carry and move equipment, use and operate a laptop computer and mobile phone, and for manual handling (lifting up to 30 libs lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling). This position is based out of Didsbury and provides care services to Didsbury, Carstairs, Water Valley and surrounding rural areas. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. Speak to the hiring manager who will confirm if, as the successful candidate in this position, you will be restricted to work at only one LTC/DLS site in Alberta.


As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation within the past year.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of a post-basic Medication Administration Course for LPN’s. Recent work experience in a community based setting, Home Care experience preferred. Palliative care experience. Advanced wound care knowledge & experience. Computer and technology skills including a good understanding of Email/Outlook, Excel and I phone.
