The Neurosciences, Rehabilitation & Vision Strategic Clinical Network (NRV SCN) is a key enabler of on-going provincial improvement in health outcomes, patient experience, and health system sustainability. Our vision is to bring together people, evidence and data to achieve the best possible health outcomes for l patients within a sustainable publicly funded health care system. The NRV SCN connects, supports, and empowers teams of clinicians, operational leaders, researchers, patients and families, strategy and policy leaders, and other key stakeholders to drive innovation in health service delivery. The Neurosciences, Rehabilitation & Vision Network consists of a core committee, numerous workgroups, project and research teams. The NRV SCN Executive Director (ED) reports to the NRV SCN Senior Provincial Director and Senior Medical Director. The ED provides primary, substantive, operational leadership for the network and is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of NRV SCN’s transformational roadmap. As such, this role is future oriented, requires high tolerance of ambiguity, strong ability to connect and communicate with a diverse cadre of key partners, and mobilize limited resources and team members to deliver results.


The Executive Director, Neurosciences, Rehabilitation & Vision SCN will: Collaborate with clinical leadership and network stakeholders for health system improvements, organizational change management, research and innovation, systems and clinical analytics, knowledge translation and management, human resources, finance and strategy, economic evaluation and value for money, health technology reassessment, and patient and public engagement. Lead activities that allow the SCN to successfully build strategic planning processes that link with the AHS strategic planning cycle and provide expert advice, counsel, and operational solutions to ensure the SCN and the organization are able to achieve priority performance metrics. Plan and develop (through consultation) and present and implement business cases that lead to transformational change in the specific populations across the continuum of care. Liaise between SCNs to maximize efficiencies and provide cross-cutting service, thus, must maintain knowledge of other SCN initiatives and key contacts. Plan, write and organize high-level briefing notes, summary/progress reports, including quarterly CEO reports and presentations that may be required by AHS executive, AHS Board or other partner organizations such as Alberta Innovates Health Solutions (AIHS); Alberta Health, etc. Lead executive-level meetings, committees and working groups and guide project evaluation. Identify system-wide support requirements and negotiate for and functionally direct these requirements (e.g. support team members, project managers, technical experts, knowledge experts) to assist the SCN in achieving its goals and priorities.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 6 years of progressive, diverse healthcare leadership experience in a health care organization of significant size, complexity & diversity. Evidence of knowledge related to rehabilitation, neurosciences, & vision needs & services across the care continuum. Demonstrated clear pattern of progressive professional & personal development. Excellent communication skills - both written & verbal. Able to achieve objectives & drive to results. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change in areas without operational control in a large organization, preferable on a provincial scale. Successful leadership experience & advanced skills in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring & evaluation. Experience in leading senior level research projects or teams, expert level analysis, & developing complex reports to disseminate results. Highly effective communicator at high administrative levels within AHS with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and client focused orientation & commitment to providing quality services. Experience in initiating and fostering positive relationships and productive partnerships with key internal & external stakeholders.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Identify risk potential of projects & initiatives throughout the breadth & depth of AHS and bring these to attention of SCN and put forward effective mitigation strategies for such risks. Proven abilities in complex problem solving, concerns resolution, investigation, and negotiation. Recognized as a Leader with successful experience in strategic human resource management & development. Considerable skill is needed to balance diverse and occasionally conflicting, stakeholder interests. Experience and expertise in facilitating presentations to convey information or transfer knowledge Presentations are often to persuade or influence. Knowledge & demonstrated application of business planning, modeling concepts, program/project management theories, principles & practices. Uses strategic thinking taking into account AHS & AH’s long-term goals assessing options & implications. Leadership skills including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, teaching, inspire & build confidence in others. Ability to lead change & create innovative solutions for complex & diverse issues. Ability to foster a climate of collaboration and cooperation amongst and builds solid relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees & other stakeholders/partners. Experience in resource management including planning & budgetary accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Graduate degree in health care management, business administration or related rehabilitation field is preferred. An individual with a rehabilitation background is preferred and work experience in the neurosciences and/or vision care is highly preferred. Management experience is an asset. Experience working with Neurosciences, Rehabilitation & Vision services preferred.
