Description
The Dietitian is a frontline professional position within Nutrition Services (NS) reporting to the Manager, Nutrition Services and Chronic Disease Management Calgary Zone. This is a 0.5 FTE temporary position for 18 months with the Alberta Kidney Care South Program at Sunridge Medical Gallery (SMG). It covers the areas of in-center hemodialysis at SMG. This Dietitian works 2 days one week and 3 days the next, days of work are variable depending on patient care needs. There are 6 evening shifts per 8 week rotation. The Dietitian is responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of client/ patient care plans and/or health promotion programs and services for the population served by the AKC South. The Dietitian acts as liaison between Nutrition Services and AHS programs, services and teams. The Dietitian provides nutrition expertise to internal and external stakeholders, and translates research findings in the field of nutrition for clients/patients, professionals and the public. The Dietitian uses nutrition counseling, behavioral change theories/strategies, or health promotion/population strategies as appropriate to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. The Dietitian participates as an integral member of the inter-professional team. The position supports nutrition education and training of staff or other key stakeholders to ensure delivery of consistent, accurate, evidence based nutrition information and includes committee and project work.
As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.
Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).
One year experience working with clients in an ambulatory center.
Experience working with patients with kidney disease preferred. Experience working with patients on hemodialysis preferred.
