COVID-19 Testing & contact tracing remain an organizational priority in AHS. Public Health, North Zone, in the Community, Rural & Continuing Care portfolio leads testing for symptomatic & asymptomatic cases. Our Assessment Centre & “Fast Tracks” have a key role in population health & surveillance through the early identification of disease & prevention of the spread of COVID19. This position reports to the Managers of Immunization & Rapid Response & works regularly with site Clinical Leads. We are seeking individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds who present with a calm demeanor & positive approach, & are skilled in interacting efficiently & accurately while testing high volumes of clients. Staff are responsible to prepare for & conduct testing via nasopharyngeal swab and/or throat swabs with both symptomatic & asymptomatic populations. Testing is offered for both ambulatory clients & clients presenting for testing within their vehicles. Your responsibilities will include repetitive data & record management & you will be required to stand, walk, lift, pull, push, bend & carry during your shift. Use of full Personal Protective Equipment between clients is also required. The position will be required to work across a variety of testing sites & locations in North Zone depending on demand & staffing & is also involved in outreach activities to test vulnerable populations. In order to be able to respond to the evolving/changing needs related to the Covid-19 response, you may be cross-trained to enable reassignment to other Covid-19 response areas, such as Contact Tracing & Health Link as the needs arise. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable & is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.Description:
The Community Tester supports infectious disease testing and prevention from a population health lens. Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, staff prepare, test clients, document, and finalize tested samples for the lab. Under the guidance of our Medical Officers of Health, the role adheres to AHS documentation guidelines and lab testing policy, procedures, and standards. As the appropriate use of full Personal Protective Equipment (masks, gowns, gloves, eye protection) is also required to perform testing, the staff must adhere to all AHS Infection, Prevention and Control requirements, guidelines, and practices and are required to take continued precautions wherever required, including at break and meal times. Staff may be required to work at various locations as designated, based on need, demand, and changing service locations.

Completion of an accredited education program, college, or university. Ability to perform Nasal Pharyngeal and /or Throat swabbing within your professional scope of practice. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college (i.e. CARNA, CLPNA, ACSLPA, Alberta College of Paramedics, ADA&C, CMA, ACOT, CPSA, CRPNA, CARTA, ACSLPA, ACCLXT, CADA, CRDHA, CMLTA, ACMDTT, CAP, or CDA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability and professional scope of practice to perform nasopharyngeal and/or throat swabbing and adhere to related standards, guidelines, and codes of ethics. Effective organizational, planning and time management abilities. Establishes and maintains effective liaison with multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated services are provided; must demonstrate working as a team player. Demonstrates ethical practice and professionalism in working with clients, peers, and other health care providers, and the public in a culturally competent manner. Recognizes safety issues and reports appropriately. Demonstrated learning path of continuing competency through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality improvement activities. Demonstrates high flexibility and adaptability, in addition to the ability to support orientation of new employees, and preceptorship of students, and work across all assessment centre sites. Ability to be self-directed and exercise strong independent clinical judgment. Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Ability to stand, twist, lean, walk, bend and reach for the majority of the shift. The role also requires continued use of personal protective equipment. Must be able to raise arms above head to appropriately don and doff PPE as well as lift equipment and supplies. Ability to be adaptable and work in a high pace frequently changing environment.
Current BLS-HCP. Experience with testing in a COVID-19 assessment center or fast track, or testing within acute care. Computer literacy and experience with Sharepoint. Cross-cultural competence and experience working with complex, vulnerable populations. Applies principles of family-centred care and client decision making ability. Clinical skill and expertise applicable to program areas.
